How We Make a Difference

Through weekly, hands-on garden-based learning, students immerse themselves in nature, gaining skills that go beyond the classroom. At local schools and community gardens, they explore the origins of their food, discover science in action, and develop a deeper appreciation for the environment.

These experiences close the gap for children who may not otherwise have access to such opportunities. Whether it's tasting a fresh blueberry for the first time, learning how to plant and nurture a garden, or working together to grow something amazing, students are empowered to think critically, connect with their peers, and build a healthier, more sustainable community.

The Results

In 2018, a study conducted by Balch et al. revealed the transformative impact of Plant the Seed’s curriculum. Students who participated in the program demonstrated statistically significant improvements compared to their peers in four key areas:

Key Impact Areas:

  • Exploring Science Concepts: Hands-on activities that bring science to life.
  • Fostering Conservation Values: Inspiring a sustainable, eco-conscious mindset.
  • Bridging the Experience Gap: Providing unique opportunities for every student to connect with nature.
  • Encouraging Cooperative Learning: Building teamwork and collaboration through shared garden projects.
